Supply of homes starts to catch up with sales
As prices rise, more sellers are testing the market.
The supply of newly listed homes for sale is starting to show signs of keeping pace with buyer activity in some of the nation’s hottest real estate markets, new data suggest.
In 21 of 24 major metropolitan markets tracked by residential brokerage ZipRealty, new listings outnumbered new sales contracts for the 30 days ended March 15.
Supply may “finally start to keep pace with frenzied buyer activity,” says Lanny Baker, ZipRealty CEO.
Home sellers in Los Angeles, for instance, put 16,170 homes on the market from mid-February to mid-March. At the same time, only 9,533 homes entered sales contracts.

One Injured in Laguna Niguel House Fire
A painter and firefighter were injured in a two-alarm fire that tore through a Laguna Niguel home Thursday.
A painter in his 30s was hospitalized with burn injuries and a firefighter required treatment for heat exhaustion due to a two-alarm blaze at a Laguna Niguel house this afternoon.
Firefighters were alerted at 4:44 p.m. and were on scene at 22 Red Rock Lane six minutes later, Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Kris Concepcion said.
“The initial arriving engine crew reported seeing black smoke from the second story of a single family residence,” said Concepcion. “They initially went into the house to fight the fire, but, because of the intensity of the fire, they had to back out.”…

“BEST HOUSING MARKET SINCE 2005, NUMBERS SHOW”
Orange County is seeing its best housing market since the final days of the housing boom in 2005, with the number of homes for sale at their lowest level in nearly seven years and the number of sales contracts in progress at their second-highest level in that period.
The “market time” or the time it would take to sell all 6,615 listings at the current sales pace, fell to 52 days. That’s the shortest market time since August 2005
As this scenario drags on, it will only be a matter of time before prices start to really rise again.
If you are a buyer stepping into the market, it feels like 2004 and 2005
